Appreciation Edition

Over the past year we have had many changes and transitions. It has been wonderful to see the organization and its recipients of so many awards doing amazing things. We wanted to highlight those who have come and gone. Please enjoy getting to know a bit more about these contributors. We also know it is important to share with our biggest fans how recipients of awards are doing. They scontinue to strive to achieve onward into their next chapters. A little Change is good.

We are going through a bit of a change, and with 30 years under our belt a little change is good. Military Family Support Trus t is changing its name to Military family Support . We have been working behind the scenes to make sure our name matches all the wonderful things we have done and will continue to do in our community. We haven't changed, just dropping a word off the end. Take note of our name and new website, Milfamilysupport.org . You'll notice some changes to our branding, logo and social media but don't be alarmed it's still us. We look forward to introducing you to some new faces that have joined our team as well as some that are moving on to new phases. We truly appreciate all the years and dedication to the role! We will share more soon! Drop us an email we'd love to talk with you and hear more of how we can work with our community to continue helping the whole military family!

MFST Luncheon 2023

Celebrating 30 Years!

Did you know we are celebrating 30 years of scholarships this year! Since 1993 MFST has been supported by so many donors through the years to make this possible. Through endowments and everyday donations, we have given over 1 million dollars and counting. Our donor list is broken up into 7 categories. Underwriters $500-$2499, Patrons Circle $2500-$4,999, Presidents Circle $5,000-$9,999, Chairmans Circle $10,000-$24,999, Gold Circle $25k-49,999, Platinum Circle $50k-$99,999, Benefactor's Circle $100k+. If you're interested in offering a named scholarship for a period or to leave a legacy, we are happy to share more details on how.

What a turnout! Military Family Support Trust held its annual donor recognition luncheon and took the time to honor the first group of Florida awardees. We had 8 of the 13 winners in attendance. We were happy to have so many winners and their families enjoy the luncheon with our donors.

MFST recognizes Community Donors at Luncheon

Hillsborough County JROTC Program Awards MFST

The Military Family Support Trust (MFST) held a recognition luncheon to honor individuals

who have provided generous legacy bequeaths and other donations over the years. These

donations are both generous and extremely important, enabling MFST to provide funding for

their many assistance programs.

The luncheon was held at the Sun City Center Freedom Plaza Club on April 22, 2022.

Colin Howgill, MFST chairman, introduced the MFST Trustees and thanked all of the honored

guests for their generous support of the MFST goals. He then introduced two of the four

scholarship winners for 2022.

The first individual recognized was Zoe Ann Spanos, from Lutz, FL. Zoe is a member of

National Honors Society and plans to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University to study

Aerospace Physiology and space flight operations. Zoe is receiving the $4,000 Marvin and

Carolyn Peterson Scholarship.

The second individual receiving a scholarship is Luciano Vona Pergola, a resident of Valrico,

FL and an honors student at Newsome High School. Luciano plans to work towards a degree in

biology or a related science at Florida Gulf Coast University. Luke is receiving the $4,000 Col.

Luther R. and Jeanne Lloyd/MOAA Scholarship.

Two additional scholarship winners, Sean Hokyoung Lee, and Reilly Colleen Weicht, residents

of Lithia FL were unable to attend the luncheon.

Retired Brigadier Colin Howgill, UK Royal Marines, was presented an award by the Hillsborough

County JROTC for the outstanding support MFST has provided the Hillsborough County JROTC

Programs. The award was presented to Brig Howgill by retired USA COL. Dale Vona who is in

Charge of the JROTC programs for MFST.

Chairman Howgill then commented on the various endeavors of MFST, which include, but

not limited to: four year scholarships for high school seniors; JROTC Honors Program;

Homeless Women Veterans; Operation Warm Heart; Veteran Guide Dog ; Southeastern Guide

Dogs; Paws for Patriots program; My Warriors Place; and sponsoring ‘Guardians’ for the Honor

Flight Support Program. He discussed in some detail all of the endeavors listed above.

MFST is a 501(c)3 organization that supports through their grant programs, military families

USF Bulls to Honor Military Family Support Trust March 11th

Military Appreciation Weekend is March 11, 2022

We are honored to be chosen by the University of South Florida Bulls to be recognized for our work in the community during Military Appreciation Weekend. The event will take place on March 11, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the University of South Florida Baseball Stadium during the Bulls doubleheader with Bradley University. Military Family Support Trust is a tax exempt, 501(c)(3), charitable organization supporting military men and women with funds from individuals and corporations who care. From scholarships for seniors and financial assistance both enlisted personnel and veterans, to service dogs for vets with PTSD, and homeless prevention for female veterans, hospice care, and more, we are committed to helping those serve. Scholarship Recipient Update

Scholarship recipient, Audrey Wheeler, shares an update on her latest success.

We always love getting updates from our scholarship recipients. We wanted to share this letter from Audrey Wheeler, who has completed her undergraduate degree and working professionally. We couldn't be more proud of her success. Keep up the good work, Audrey!

"... I greatly appreciate the support I had from donors during my undergrad. As of February, I am living and working in Washington, D.C. working for a Consulting Service as a Policy Associate. The firm does government consulting for nonprofits and companies who advocate for better mental health care policy. This includes championing issues such as home health care, substance use treatment, and suicide prevention. I also began working on a Master of Public Administration this year. In my free time I go hiking, read a lot, and enjoy tasting all the good food around D.C.!

Operation Warm Heart Receives Donation from MFST

The Military Family Support Trust (MFST) recently held a collection for Operation Warm Heart, a program sponsored by the 1st Sergeant’s Council at MacDill AFB, to assist families during times of need.

Operation Warm Heart provides vouchers for use at the base commissary and are distributed to needy base personnel for their use around the holidays. The funds raised during our collection was used to purchase vouchers at the commissary.

A Mix n’ Mingle party was held on Thursday, November 11th in the Atrium at Freedom Plaza to thank the Freedom Plaza residents for their generosity. Although 2021 was the year of rebounding from a shut down, supporters of MFST came out in full swing. The 1st Sergeants Council and their families were on hand to celebrate with MFST while receiving three checks totaling over $10,000. The 2021 drive was a resounding success. The annual drive held at Freedom Plaza focuses on helping families during the holiday season.
