Other ways we support the veteran community
Our 4 Pillar Programs
Supporting military men and women with donations from people and corporations who care.
FL Scholarships
This year, we will be awarding 13 scholarships, which range from $2,000 to $12,000 to cover students' 4-year education. Since we were founded, we have awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships. The program is open to students whose parent or grandparent is serving, or has served, in the U.S. military and achieved the rank of E5 or above. This program is only open to Florida residents.
Career Grants
A newer program we help fund veterans, military spouses, and their dependent children interested in trade, vocational and certification programs. A generous opportunity MFS in collaboration with the George and Mimi Frank donations. We are excited to assist and follow these students progress.
Honor Flight Guardian Program
As a way of saying thank you for their service, Honor Flight takes older veterans for a day trip to Washington, DC to see the National Veteran's Memorial. Each veteran is required to have a guardian for the day. MFS covers the guardian's cost, including the flight from Tampa. We have sponsored approximately 50+ guardians. JROTC Program
Our JROTC program is an award program centered on all of the Hillsborough County public high schools where we recognize the top cadet in each grade level. We also provide medals and certificates for programs across the state of Florida.
Guide & Therapy Dogs for Veterans
We work closely with Southeastern Guide Dogs (SEGD) in Palmetto, Florida, a world leader in the field of training and linking people with the Guide and PTSD Therapy service dogs. We provide funds to cover the link-up training period for 2 veterans per year with a trained guide or therapy dog. We have also sponsored equipment in the Canine Assessment Center.
LifePath Hospice
Each year, we donate money to the Veterans Program at Life Path Hospice. This organization does a marvelous job for veterans, enabling them to complete the final phase of their life with dignity, and with the peace of mind of knowing that our nation is grateful for their military service.
My Warrior's Place
Located in Ruskin, Florida, on the Little Manatee River, My Warrior's Place offers a retreat center for veterans and families where they can receive counseling and unwind with like-minded families coping with PTSD. Founded by a Gold Star mom who lost her son in Afghanistan, we provide a grant each year for this organization. We pay for a number of expenses, including things like covering Emergency surgery for a recently admitted veteran's service dog.
USF Scholarship
Every year, we give $12,000 to the Military Services Dept. of the University of South Florida to be used as necessary for their students who are veterans. The University decides how the funds will be used. USF is one of only 50 campuses in the nation that hosts ROTC programs from all of the nation's Armed Services, and is one of the top veteran-friendly campuses in the U.S.
